How Much for a Photoshoot?

(You’re asking the wrong question)
In my perfect world, my prospective clients did their research: they found me online, loved what they saw, related to my full-service approach, and reached out thoughtfully.
In reality, every week I get messages: "How much for a shoot?"
And every time, I have to resist the urge to respond with: "How much for a car?"
Because the answer is, it depends.
I’ll give you the specific numbers that you're here for, I promise. But first, I want to challenge you with the idea that there are more important questions you could be asking a photographer. And by the end of this post, you'll know exactly what they are.

Why Photographers Won't Just "Send You Their Packages"
You’re Googling how much a professional photoshoot costs in Toronto, and you’re not getting a direct answer.
Things should just have prices, right? A gym membership has a price. A used stroller has a price. A can of beans has a price. So why would a photographer ask you to get on a phone call just to find out what you're paying?
Here's Why: You're not buying a product.
Professional photography is a custom-tailored experience — and it looks completely different from person to person.
People come in asking for what they want. I find out what they truly need.
A C-level corporate woman who inquires about “just a headshot” might leave with family wall art for her living room. She has an idea of her budget, but doesn't know we offer family portraits. She’s been thinking about having photos of her kids since her maternity shoot (the oldest is graduating this year), but what actually worries her is her own mom who has been recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It's so important to have photos of her with the kids while there's still time.
The budget suddenly doesn't matter. The outcome does.
If I gave you a package price without knowing any of this, you'd either be overwhelmed by irrelevant options, or you'd miss out on possibilities you didn't even know existed.
If Price Is the Only Thing That Matters, You Don't Need Me
I mean this kindly. If you're shopping for the cheapest photographer, that’s not me.
But if you want to walk out of the studio feeling like you finally were truly seen — if you want images that make people stop scrolling, that you actually want to put on your wall — that starts with a conversation.
The real question is what you're trying to accomplish.

Frequently Asked Questions About Photoshoots – And What You Truly Want to Know
Here are the most common questions people ask photographers — and the ones that really matter.
"How many photos will I get?"
What you're really asking: Will I get my money's worth?
If you're going into a surgery, would you ask a surgeon how many incisions they'll make?
An overwhelming gallery of 400 raw images of which you maybe like 12 is not serving you better than 20 images you genuinely love and know exactly where and how to use.
"What's included?"
What you're really asking: Am I going to be surprised by hidden costs?
The costs vary widely depending on your needs. Each photographer has a different approach. Hence, let’s talk first.
Here's what's always included in our sessions, regardless of investment level:
Complimentary professional hair and makeup for ladies
Multiple outfits and personal styling
A guided session in our professional Toronto photo studio in the Junction
Full posing and expression guidance — you’ll never wonder what to do with your hands
A private image selection session where we’ll help you pick the best of the best images
What varies is the output: how many images, what formats, whether you're investing in wall art, fine art prints, a brand content library, or all of the above.
"Can you just send me your packages?"
What you're really asking: Can I make this decision without talking to anyone?
If you're confident you don't need help figuring out what session would be best for you, a lot of photographers will send you pre-set packages and leave the decision up to you.
At Vongue Art Photography, we don’t believe in one size fits all.
Our clients often shy away from the camera. They are busy professionals and value their time. They want an expert to guide them into the type of session they would benefit most from.
The initial discovery call is a complimentary clarity session on their personal and professional goals.
So What Does It Actually Cost?
Fine. Let's talk numbers.
Our sessions are built à la carte – there is a wide range of what you can spend. There is something for everyone. We don't do one-size-fits-all pricing because we don't do one-size-fits-all sessions.
Our signature custom experience begins at $1,290. Select opportunities start at $490.
From there, it depends on you. For example:

Daniela came in for a glam session to celebrate her 50th birthday. During our discovery call, we found out that she runs two businesses — a marketing agency and a spiritual consultancy. She realized that her brands hadn't had a proper photoshoot in years and she always scrambles for a decent headshot for her speaking engagements. What started as a birthday treat turned into a full creative day with multiple looks built around her identity, both personal and professional. She invested ~$15,000 in 8 pieces of wall art, a 60+ image heirloom album, and a digital marketing gallery she'll be pulling from for the next two years. She called it the best gift she ever gave herself.
Marcus came in for “just a few shots” for his dating profile. “Nothing crazy.” By the time we finished his discovery call, we'd talked about his kids, his dogs, the life he'd built and the kind of person he wanted to share it with. We designed a session around everything that mattered to him. He left with a gallery of 45 images — some polished and confident, some candid and warm, some with the kids climbing on him. He invested ~$5,000. His profile got three times the responses. More importantly, he said these photos marked the chapter of his life that’s going by so fast.
Priya, a single mom, signed her daughter up for our For the Love of Sports session — a dedicated photo experience for young athletes. She came in with a clear budget of $500 and no intention of spending more. Then she saw the images of her little girl – a gorgeous grown-up ballerina mid-leap – and started crying. She went way over her budget, investing ~$1100 — and said it was worth every penny.
What will you spend? That depends entirely on your goals, your taste, and your budget. There's no wrong answer — only the wrong fit.

The Questions We'll Be Asking You
Here's the twist: in a premium photography experience, the most important questions aren't the ones you ask the photographer. They're the ones the photographer asks you.
Before we ever book a session, we want to know:
What do you actually want to use these images for?
Why is it important to you now?
How do you feel on camera, and what was your past experience being photographed?
What would make this feel like a success?
Is this for your business, your personal life, or both?
How would you like to enjoy your images: are you an album person? A wall art person?
The studio session is designed around your answers.
And when you walk through the door, we already know you. We've already thought about your session. We're already prepared to photograph you — not a version of you that fits into a template.
Ready to Plan Your Perfect Photo Session?
The first step is a 15-minute phone call. No commitment, no pressure — just a conversation to find out if we're the right fit for each other.
If we are, we'll create photos together that you'll be proud of for years.
